Lenses
There are many different lenses a photographer (with a camera that has changable lenses) can choose from. The most common type is the medium size, which is roughly from 40 to 70 mms in focal length.
Secondly there are Telephoto lenses wich are long, usually from 100 to 300 mms in focal length.
And finally from the common types there is the wide-angle or landscape lenses, these are from about 20 to 35mms in focal length.
There is one type that stands out a bit, and that is because it has a special use: macro photography. These lenses come with various focal lengths (often medium to telephoto). However these lenses are designed to have a focus capability to pick objects up better that are closer.
Large lenses are good for portraits due to their lack of distortion and a small field of view.
Medium lenses are best for full-body shots, indoor photography and small-range outdoor shots.
Small lenses are mostly used for landscape photography, unless you'd like a distorted close-up for example.
Finally macro lenses are - as mentioned before - used to create great enlargements or close-ups of smaller objects.
